The one thing Capriati did better than Seles, atleast in later years, was she moved alot better. Other than that Seles had it in every other department I think.
@Monicasthebest the funny thing is I felt Seles well past her prime was even as good or better than Capriati in 2001-2002 when Capriati won 3 slams. In Australia 01 Seles lost a big lead vs Jen, she had to miss the 02 FO that Jen won, and the 02 Australian Seles ran into on fire Hingis while Jen ran into crappy choking Hingis. And I felt Venus, Davenport, even younger Serena (game wise) were all much better than Capriati around then. Amazing she won 3 out of 5 slams then somehow.
Seles Ruled Capriati, in every department, her Shots were better and she was a great champ win or loose something Capriati never learn’t….. i’d like to see this match in full if anyone has it
Good to see Seles destroying the overhyped Capriati. It was annoying to hear Patrick McEnroe pick Capriati to win saying she was fitter, moved better, hit harder, basically claiming she did everything better than Seles. Yeah that is why Seles had won 9 slams and Capriati 0 at that point (she did eventually get 3 but the luckiest 3 slam winner ever probably).
where did you get that from. It’s wrong. Seles had lost multiple matches in 1999, including against Hingis AO, Lucic wimbledon. She had 11 losses prior to the Us open that year.
The stat said Monica had a 33-1 record so far that year after winning the first set. That one loss came to Graf at the French Open, where she lost 67, 63, 64. She would lose to Serena Williams-the eventual champ-in the next round by a score of 46, 63, 62, making the stat 33-2 😉
