Capriati always had trouble against Mauresmo because she often came to net, took time away from Capriati and forced Capriati to play out of her comfort zone. Mauresmo was masterful at mixing up pace and it always trouble Capraiti. This match as well as their 02 WIMBLEDON encounter is a perfect example.
5? you gotta be kidding right? and just to remind you, Capriati have beaten Davenport, Seles, Williamns and Hingins in the same tournament, the last 3 years of her career Jennifer was a lot better than Amelie in her entire career.
as for Capriati’s 3rd slam what a joke that was, it took one of the ugliest chokes of the Open Era by a way past her prime Hingis for her to win that one. Add to that Venus and Seles who both would have beaten her in other tougher half, Davenport and Serena who would have both for sure beaten her at that event this year missing it. Luckiest slam ever and that is her only edge over Mauresmo, but Mauresmo with 15 Premier titles vs 5 for Capriati, is still better overall.
Give me a f ucking break about Henin being sick. Henin was getting her ass kicked and quit. Everyone knows it, even Henin fans admit it. Speaking of Henin that alone proves Mauresmo > Capriati. Mauresmo beat Henin in 2 slam finals in one of her best years ever. Capriati could have NEVER pulled that off, heck she played the match of her life and lost to a cramping up and coming Henin at the U.S Open, and in her best year lost to baby Henin at Wimbledon.
whatever, Mauresmo just won 2 slam tournaments, one because the opponent was sick (Henin) Capriati won 3, in such epic batles, she was never better than Capriati, and its not about her sexuality, its about the horrible way she used to play,
Mauresmo was robbed in the semis of this event too. She had some horrible line calls in the 3rd set vs Venus. I wonder if that was American favortism or just bad umpiring. Probably the latter as Serena had some horrible line calling in some of her matches too.
Usually I would concur the player with more slams is better but in this case probably not. Maursmo has 27 WTA titles to 14 for Capriati and something like 15 Premier titles to a mere 5 or so for Jennifer. She also won the WTA Year End Championships, won the sports big slam Wimbledon, where Capriati didnt ever make a Wimbledon or U.S Open final. Mauresmo was ranked #1 parts of two different years. Overall I would rate Mauresmo as the better career and greater player.
Yeah Mauresmo was such a lovely girl. Was so pleased to see her get Wimbledon by beating Henin who had robbed her of a proper victory in the Aus open with her chicken shit “im too sick – but only because i’m losing” effort.
Actually Mauresmo was she had a 7 to 4 edge against Capriati she dominated her. Also Amelie was number one for much longer she also won 24 WTA titles double the amount Capriati won.
I agree with you on so many levels. People are so horrible to Mauresmo, calling her a man, a dyke etc. And that’s only because they (mostly Americans) know that she’s a better player than Capriati, but just can’t face anyone with a little class beating the big bitch. Amelie rocks! I’m so glad someone else agrees 🙂
It seems like after finally winning her first Slam in 2001 she just let success get to her head. Yeah, I could not bring myself to root for JC after seeing all of her petulant behavior.
Omg such harsh words lol…but sadly enough it’s true Capriati wasn’t the nicest player to watch… she would always complain about calls that were obviously in and would make a scene for no apparent reason. As an American, I found it hard to root for her
Capriati was such a low down dirty bitch she had the worst attitude of the top players she was so disrespectful to Amelie here. I remember watching this match rooting Amelie on I was so proud of her to silence the disgraceful American crowd! Amelie in the end was the better player and she lead Jennifer in their head to head 7-4 for a reason. Amelie just too consistent for that loopy classless bitch Jennifer Capriati!
Capriati really too passive, always waiting for the opponent’s error. With the forehand she could be much more aggressive and the backhand was always crosscourt, that’s why she kept losing against the best players (Serena Davenport Venus Mauresmo Henin) she let them dictate to much. I agree on her having the best defensive running forehand though
Capriati was such a bitch and handshakes. It says a lot about the way the are. I can understand disappointment and been upset but that little moment needs diplomacy and class. Unless something really obvious happened and the other player was unfair or whatever. Anyway, she always did that and it wasn´t nice.

Just like Henin! I love watching both of them play, but as people I think they are horrible.
