After winning two gold medals in the London Olympics, Serena Williams has said that she doesn’t want to relax even a single bit and she wants to continue her dream run throughout this season. Serena performed brilliantly in the London Olympics and won the Gold medal both in the singles and the doubles competition. Serena won her maiden Gold medal in the singles competition by defeating Maria Sharapova in the final.
On being asked about her future plans, Serena said that she has played a lot of tennis in the last few days. So, she wants to have rest for a few days. As the three time runner up at Wimbledon Andy Roddick walked off the court after being beaten by Spaniard David Ferrer in the third round at the All England Club, he blew a few kisses and waved at the crowd in such a manner that rumors have already begun to surface that the 29 year old former US Open champion might not be making a return to the famous courts of London anytime again.
With his 12th attempt at winning the most famous Grand Slam event of the tennis calendar up in smoke once again, Roddick was, however, adamant that he had not come to any decisions regarding his future in the game.
Speaking at a press conference after his loss, Roddick stated that on a personal level, he played a far better game in the defeat to the seventh seeded Ferrer than he had done in a long time and added that he was looking forward to returning to the All England Club in a month’s time to take part in the summer Olympic Games. American tennis player Mardy Fish stated that he faced a lot of difficulties after his heart operation and it took him several months to build up his self confidence once again, after it had been shattered by the scary process that he had to undergo. Fish also added that he was extremely strained immediately after his return to the game and had even feared that he would have to give up the game for good due to the condition.
The world number twelve arrived in Wimbledon, which is his first Grand Slam since the surgery and he rallied to beat Spaniard Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo 7-6, 7-5, 7-6. Fish’s movements on court during the match looked comfortable and the 30 year old bore no signs of weakness following his recovery from the operation. However, almost immediately after the culmination of the match, the second highest ranked American player according to the ATP Tour ratings fell sick. He felt so unwell that he couldn’t attend the post match press conference and Mardy Fish complained of an ache in his left arm and stomach cramps.
However, the following day, he was much better. Speaking to the media after the match, Fish stated that he had been taking medicines for his arm, and added that the pain was compounded by the heaviness of the balls at Wimbledon. He went on to add that it would have been better for him if he managed to go home and lie down but with so many guys in the locker room, it was difficult to do. But Fish is glad that it had nothing to do with his surgically repaired heart.
Mardy Fish, who reached a career high ranking of 7 last year, has been suffering from the heart ailment for almost the better part of the year.
Melanie Oudin has secured her first WTA Tour title and, following her victory at the AEGON Classic.
The American came through qualifying in Birmingham, and went on to secure the grass-court event, beating two seeds in the process. Having defeated eighth seed, Ekaterina Makarova in the semi-finals, Oudin saw off the sixth seed, Jelena Jankovic, in straight sets, 6-4 6-2.
The victory was made all the more impressive by the fact that both finalists had to win two matches on Sunday, due to the rain-affected schedule, before the final on Monday. The 20-year-old Oudin looked fresher than her opponent, who is seven years older, and eventually came out on top after one hour and 35 minutes on court. Read more »
Andy Robbick provided a typical uncertain performance on the Paris clay courts a his form on clay continues to fall after a difficult year on the men’s tennis circuit. The 29 year old crashed against Nicolas Mahut, who had never beaten Roddick before and has only progressed beyond the first round at the French open once in his last ten attempts. Roddick’s preparation could not have been much worse going into the competition with only 3 games being played on clay pitches this year before his loss at Roland Garros. This poor preparation is due to a string of injuries which has limited the world number 33’s court time this year and explaining his rapid fall from the top of the world rankings. Nicolas Mahut who is ranked 89 in the world beat Roddick 6-3. 6-3, 4-6. 6-2. Despite Roddick’s poor history in Paris, this was his first opening round deafeat in five years.
The ex-US Open winner has seen his game crumble and has not performed at his best since his historic loss in the Wimbledon final against Roger Federer in 2009. Since then Roddick has only managed a quarter final in any grand slam tournament and the former world number one has fallen down the ranking which may leave him unseeded going into Wimbledon where Roddick is usually a strong candidate for victory. Roddick requires a strong tournament in England to make sure he remains a seeded player in future tournaments to help him recapture his form and ability which led him to the top of the men’s world rankings.

Since Martina Hingis in the year 1998, Serena along with her sister Venus Williams hold a record of holding four grand slam titles simultaneously.
Serena Williams has also won two gold medals in the Olympics also winning more prize money than any other female athlete till now. In the year 2012, Serena Williams started off her journey with the Brisbane International. However after hurting her ankle while serving in on of the rounds of the match, she suffered a great degree of pain and thus had to back out from the rest of the tournament. Next up came the Australian Open where Serena Williams was seeded 12th, but finally lost to Makarova. After returning from the loss of the Australian Open, Serena Williams took part in the Miami tournament where she avenged her loss by beating Samantha in the fourth round landing up in the quarter finals against Wozniacki. However at the end of the match, Wozniacki defeated her 6-4; 6-4.
