I don’t know why but since the Australian Open this year Serena doesn’t
seem to be 100% there. She seems a bit out of form. Sometimes her attitude
on the court is weird. Her face looks like she is in trouble all the time
and I really don’t understand why. Hope she’ll get it right for the next
Slams! And I hope Venus will be able to keep playing at her Dubai level!
Serena goes through patches of “growing” pains. This means she recently
changed her game a little to make it better and the poor play is because
she is still adjusting to the changes.
She went through the same in 2000-2001 then dominated 2002-2003. She
changed her game again 2005-2006. In 2011 she changed her game as well. She
always eventually adjusts to the changes in her game and dominates.
I can see she is adding heavy topspin to her forehand.
We can see that Amélie Mauresmo is in the stadium. Is she training Caroline
Garcia? If so, that does not bode well for the competition: Amélie trained
Marion Bartoli just for a couple of weeks at Wimbledon last year, and look
where it brought her: she won Wimbledon!
this match echoes Serena’s match versus the Great Graf in their first
career meeting. such a comparison bodes extremely well for carolina garcia
and these highlights display her ample athleticism, fire power, shot
making, and potential. having said that, the scariest part is that Serena
is superior in every category mentioned, yes, even potential.
Clicked this video cause Garcia beat Jankovic today in straight sets though
JJ has been playing fine this year. Garcia has easy power and very good
movement, she can hang with Serena in the raquet speed department and
defending.
She played some stupid shots though. In the first and in the third, she was
playing the easy cross court while charging to the net. Serena made her
pay. Had she played longline Garcia would have won the point. In the first
set it was the break point that cost her the set. Garcia is definitely a
player to watch.
Serena is getting older and of course she needs to change her games indeed.
She uses more topspin not like in 2012-2013 where she most rally on power.
If she plays with same power, she has bigger chance to get injury, so she
needs to be careful, but one thing that keep happy is that now, Serena
average aces in a match is improved to 11.
