RODDICK FALLS TO SERB

Andy Roddick has been defeated in the second round of the men’s singles tennis tournament of London Olympics by Novak Djokovic. The Serbian superstar defeated Roddick in the straight sets by 6-2, 6-1. This year hasn’t been good for Roddick so far. His performances in the three Grand Slams this year were pretty average. His fans were expecting him to flourish in the Olympics, but, Roddick has disappointed his fans by giving another bad performance. Djokovic defeated Roddick in just 54 minutes.

Roddick is a brilliant player on the grass court and he has always performed brilliantly in Wimbledon. He has been in the finals of Wimbledon three times before. So, people were expecting this match to be a close one. But, that didn’t happen and the match was completely one sided. Djokovic attacked Roddick right from the outset. He broke the service of Roddick in the sixth game of the first set and took a lead of 4-2. After that blow, Roddick was not able to come back into the match. In the second set, Djokovic broke the service of Roddick twice (in the second game and the sixth game). Roddick is renowned in the world for his powerful service, but, his service was wonderfully controlled by Djokovic. Djokovic fired a total of 14 aces in the match.

After the match, Roddick said that he played well in the match, but, it was hard to control Djokovic. He played brilliantly from the baseline. On being asked about the retirement, Roddick answered that he is not thinking about the retirement at the moment. He can still play quality tennis at the top level and it is not the right time to think about retirement. On the other hand, Djokovic was pretty happy to move into the third round. In the third round, Djokovic will play against the former Wimbledon champion Lleyton Hewitt.

Andy Roddick Leaves Wimbledon, Uncertain of a Return

As the three time runner up at Wimbledon Andy Roddick walked off the court after being beaten by Spaniard David Ferrer in the third round at the All England Club, he blew a few kisses and waved at the crowd in such a manner that rumors have already begun to surface that the 29 year old former US Open champion might not be making a return to the famous courts of London anytime again.

With his 12th attempt at winning the most famous Grand Slam event of the tennis calendar up in smoke once again, Roddick was, however, adamant that he had not come to any decisions regarding his future in the game.

Speaking at a press conference after his loss, Roddick stated that on a personal level, he played a far better game in the defeat to the seventh seeded Ferrer than he had done in a long time and added that he was looking forward to returning to the All England Club in a month’s time to take part in the summer Olympic Games. Roddick bombs out for French Open

Andy Robbick provided a typical uncertain performance on the Paris clay courts a his form on clay continues to fall after a difficult year on the men’s tennis circuit. The 29 year old crashed against Nicolas Mahut, who had never beaten Roddick before and has only progressed beyond the first round at  the French open once in his last ten attempts. Roddick Leaving the French Open is of little surprise as he has never been able to translate his game to the French clay pitches and an early exit is almost a French Open tradition.

Roddick’s preparation could not have been much worse going into the competition with only 3 games being played on clay pitches this year before his loss at Roland Garros. This poor preparation is due to a string of injuries which has limited the world number 33’s court time this year and explaining his rapid fall from the top of the world rankings. Nicolas Mahut who is ranked 89 in the world beat Roddick 6-3. 6-3, 4-6. 6-2. Despite Roddick’s poor history in Paris, this was his first opening round deafeat in five years.

The ex-US Open winner has seen his game crumble and has not performed at his best since his historic loss in the Wimbledon final against Roger Federer in 2009.  Since then Roddick has only managed a quarter final in any grand slam tournament and the former world number one has fallen down the ranking which may leave him unseeded going into Wimbledon where Roddick is usually a strong candidate for victory.  Roddick requires a strong tournament in England to make sure he remains a seeded player in future tournaments to help him recapture his form and ability which led him to the top of the men’s world rankings.

SEASON FINALLY STARTS

Andy Roddick is a former world number one in the Tennis World Rankings, though he’s currently ranked at number 3.

Roddick has also reached the finals of four other Grand slam events, including Wimbledon in 2004, 2005 and 2009 and the U.S Open in 2006. However each time he lost to Rodger Federer.

RODDICK STUMBLES OUT

Andy Roddick failed to save his grace as he bowed to seventh seed Kevin Anderson of South Africa for 2-6, 7-6 (9-7), 6-4. In spite of picking up a mid-point momentum during the match, Roddick could not pull off a win at the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships.

4th seeded Roddick seemed outpaced, with right hamstring and right ankle injuries. According to the lanky American, he played well enough to win the game but his average serves might have brought him down. However, there seemed too many mistakes from Roddick’s side as he struggled to win the second tie-breaker. Roddick was out of place with 9-8 during the tiebreaker failing to win his first serve and even found his backhand hit the net.

This year has not started well for Roddick. Anderson looked well in form saving 3 match points for the very first time in his career. While speaking at the conference Anderson stated how he deserved to win. The match was a well-fought battle. There were some exciting moments in the game when Roddick tried coming back into the game in the 3rd set.

Anderson now faces top-seed John Isner in the semifinals. This will be a game of two rivals who have met before with the South African winning in their last encounter at the Sony Ericsson Open 2011. Isner came into the semifinals winning an easy 6-3, 6-2 over eighth-seed Bernard Tomic of Australia.

Isner is rated to have an upper hand over Anderson at the tournament for his fine form. During his match with Tomic, Isner won four games at love. Although the game looked easy, Isner seemed making perfect moves from the beginning of the game.

RODDICK RELISHING COMEBACK

United States of America tennis veteran Andy Roddick is well on course to making his much awaited comeback at the SAP Open in San Jose, although according to the player himself, he hasn’t hit a tennis ball since he hurt his right hamstring in the second round encounter in the Australian Open.

Speaking to reporters on a conference call, Roddick stated that an MRI scan done on his hamstring showed that he had a partial tear in the tendon, which he suffered during the match against Lleyton Hewitt on the 19th of January.

Roddick, who will be turning 30 years old this year, injured his hamstring in the second set of his match against the former world number one, which forced him to take a medical time out. He managed to pull together another 16 games before retiring from the match. Since then, Andy Roddick has been sidelined and did not even hit the gym till just a few days back.

But he is confident that he can pull through and hit the courts at San Jose for the SAP Open where he is scheduled to play his first match on the 15th of February. After this tournament, Roddick is scheduled to play at the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships in Memphis and a good run of form at San Jose would give him the chance to notch up his 600th career appearance at Memphis, a tournament which gave him his 30th career singles title just last year.

However, the only concern that Andy Roddick has at the moment is the fact that he has not hit a ball since returning from Australia and he feels that he might be a bit rusty at the beginning of the tournament but feels that a good run will improve his streak in the tournament.
