The 40th Family Circle Cup Championships (starting from March 31) will see both the Williams sister participating in the tournament. After Venus announced earlier this month that she will be participating in the tournament, Serena too has given her nod to be a part of the event. Both Venus and Serena are past champions of the tournament. While Venus won the title in 2004, Serena emerged champion in 2008.
2008 was Serena’s last appearance at Family Cup Tennis Center. Serena is one of the most decorated tennis women players and has 13 major titles under her belt. She said that she is returning to mark the 40th anniversary of the event – an event that she loved as a novice tennis player, and gave her many great moments.
Its quite a coup for the Circle Cup – Serena has been ranked the world no 1 in singles on 5 occasions by the Women’s Tennis Association.
